How It's Made

The Aseptic Process

We think about this more than most brands do. Here's why that matters to you.

Aseptic food processing means the food is never cooked in plastic.

Mamala Support Snacks™ are produced using aseptic food processing, a method in which food is sterilized and cooled before it is introduced into separately sterilized packaging, so the food and the container are never heated together.

Most shelf-stable food is cooked inside its container. Aseptic processing works the other way around. Here's how it works: Your food is rapidly heated to eliminate harmful bacteria, then immediately cooled. Your pouch goes through its own sterilization process entirely separate from the food. Then the two meet, inside a sterile chamber, and the pouch is hermetically sealed. The food spends zero time being cooked inside the packaging.

The difference shows up in what makes it into the pouch

When food isn't subjected to prolonged heat inside packaging, more of its natural nutrients, color, and flavor survive. No preservatives required. No refrigeration required. No compromises on ingredient integrity.

We chose aseptic processing because we formulate for the full nutritional life of a woman. Her cycle. Her hormones. Her recoveries, plural. A pregnancy. A postpartum that takes longer than anyone tells you. Nutrient retention isn't optional here. The goal isn't shelf-stable for its own sake. The goal is shelf-stable without sacrificing the things that make these snacks worth eating in the first place.

Shelf stable. 12+ months. Made the way we think food should be made.

Support Snack™ FAQ

What is a Support Snack™?

Support Snacks™ are functional, nutrient-dense snacks made with whole-food ingredients to support women’s health during nutrient-critical life stages—starting with postpartum. Designed by dietitians, they deliver targeted nutrition in a convenient, delicious way to support recovery, replenishment, and healing.

Are Support Snacks™ only for postpartum?

Our nutrient-dense whole food blends can be enjoyed at any stage of life and are designed to support overall wellness. While our first collection of Support Snacks™ was thoughtfully formulated with a functional focus on key nutrients often needed during the postpartum period, they offer nourishing, whole food support for anyone looking to replenish and feel supported.

Can I share my Support Snacks™ with my kid?

Our Support Snacks™ are foods (not supplements), made with whole-food ingredients you’d find in your own kitchen. They’re not designed specifically for children, so we always recommend checking the ingredients and, if you’re unsure, chatting with your pediatrician.

That said, many Mamalas (our founder included!) happily share them with their kiddos. Every family’s different — nosh well, and use your best judgment for yours.

Why are Mamala Support Snacks™ priced higher than other pouches?

Mamala costs more because we use an aseptic process that cooks our food before it ever touches the pouch, unlike most brands that cook food sealed inside plastic or aluminum. Every Support Snack™ starts with organic, functional whole foods, ingredients chosen by a registered dietitian to do real work for a recovering body, not just fill a pouch. Organic costs more. Functional costs more. That part you'd expect.

The part you might not know about is how we make them. Most pouches are filled raw, then cooked inside their packaging, heated to high temperatures while sealed in plastic or aluminum. It's faster, it's cheaper, and it's the industry standard. We don't do that. Our food is cooked, cooled, and then filled into the pouch. Never cooked in plastic. That difference shows up in what you're actually eating. Less heat means less nutrient degradation, so more of what we put in stays in. The taste is fresher. And your food is never cooked in plastic, full stop.

How are your pouches made?

The majority of shelf-stable snacks are heat-treated inside their pouches, which means high temperatures and plastic meet your food at the same time. But not Mamala. It took us years of research, but we found a process that gently heats and then cools our recipe before it is filled in our pouches. Hot plastic never touches your Support Snacks™.
